2 WOMEN LET SHOPKEEPER RAPE, FILM THEIR MINOR DAUGHTERS AS PAYMENT FOR GOODS; 50 VIDEOS FOUND

The matter came to fore after the police raided the store of the shopkeeper, identified as Perumal (48), following a tip-off that he had stored banned tobacco products there.

Chennai: Amid the furore over the gang-rape of a college student in Karnataka’s Mysuru, a shocking case of crime has come to light from Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, where two women, both sisters, allegedly allowed a shopkeeper to rape their minor daughters and record videos of the assault as payment for the goods they purchased from his shop. The shopkeeper in question even raped and filmed three friends of the sister duo’s daughters.

The matter came to fore after the police raided the store of the shopkeeper, identified as Perumal (48), following a tip-off that he had stored banned tobacco products there. During the raid, a bag of tobacco items and the shopkeeper’s mobile phone was seized by the police.

Police were taken by a shock when they checked the shopkeeper’s mobile phone, which was seized to obtain details of dealers of tobacco items. In the device’s photo gallery, they found nearly 50 videos of children being sexually assaulted by a man. The police, initially, thought that the shopkeeper had downloaded child pornographic content. However, later, it was concluded that the man seen in the clips was Perumal. Subsequently, Perumal was picked up by the police. During questioning, he told the police that he had been sexually assaulting the five minors for around six months, according to a report by The Times of India.

Police came to know that two sisters -- aged 30 and 28 years --were also involved in the crime. The two have also been arrested. One of them was having an affair with the shopkeeper. They allowed him to sexually their minor daughters and shoot videos of the heinous crime as payment for the articles they purchased from his shop. The children’s three friends who had come to their house for playing were also repeatedly raped by the shopkeeper.

“These three children were too young to tell their parents what was happening… It is a shocking case. If the inspector had not checked his mobile phone, the case wouldn’t have come to light and the man would have abused more children,” the report quoted deputy commissioner Karthikeyan as saying.
