Kandice Barber, 35, had raped 15-year-old student after adding him on Snapchat and sending him sexually explicit messages, including a video of her performing a sexual act
The husband of a twisted teacher who raped with a 15-year-old student has reportedly refused to leave her, despite her conviction. Kandice Barber, 35, was jailed for six years and two months last year after she groomed a child.
She took the victim to a field and kissed him on the neck before asking him "what do you want to do now". Barber, from Wendover, Buckinghamshire, then had sex with the boy, although she later threatened to falsely accuse him of rape if he reported her.
The supply teacher's husband, Daniel, 38, is still with her even though she has been locked up for almost 12 months.
Barber's mum Dawn Green confirmed the pair are still a couple and insisted her daughter still denies having sex with the boy, The Sun reports.
Defending her daughter, she told the newspaper: "She is doing okay. It was a very harsh sentence and it is a long time before she can be released.
"We are hoping she can be moved to an open prison soon.”
She confirmed her daughter would not be appealing her sentence.
Barber's husband previously denied their relationship was in trouble and described her as his “rock". She had blown him a kiss after being remanded in custody following the verdict in January last year.
Daniel previously vowed to wait for his wife to be released from prison, The Sun reports.
Barber was found guilty of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity following a retrial. She was jailed at Aylesbury Crown Court in March 2021, with Recorder Bal Dhaliwal saying: “You acted in gross breach of trust. You took advantage of a child in your care and groomed him for your own sexual gratification.”
The judge described the mum-of-three's actions as "beyond despicable".
Prosecutor David Povall summarised a victim personal statement from the teenager in which he said Barber “was supposed to help him make the right decisions, but helped him to make all the wrong decisions”.
Mr Povall said: “He was at school and he came into contact with the defendant. She was in a position of trust.
“He has been caused stress and anxiety having to go through two trials. He is concerned his family and friends have also suffered."
He continued: “His GCSEs were not as good as they should have been, partly as a result.”
Judge Dhaliwal described how Barber added herself to the victim's Snapchat account and exchanged messages with the boy which became sexual within a week.
She said: "You also sent images, including a topless image of yourself, and a live video in which you were masturbating.
"All of these acts are tantamount to you grooming him and pulling him in, and with significant planning on your part."
During one incident, the court heard Barber asked the boy to meet her, going to a private field and having sex with him.
The judge said: “You called him and asked to meet. He agreed and you walked into some private fields.
"You began kissing him. You asked if he wanted to have sex, he agreed."
After Barber was jailed, Daniel posted an online tribute to his wife with a kissing emoji, and the caption "always".
