A 23-year-old South African man was drugged and raped numerous times over three days by three female assailants after he climbed into a communal taxi.
SOUTH AFRICA : Rape is a heinous crime and it can traumatize and impact a woman as well as a man. Rape is one of the most horrendous and gruesome crime that can be committed against a human being. It leaves the victim with a deep sense of mistrust, trauma and grief. Many a times the victims start blaming themselves for the occurrence of the crime. The society is also not sympathetic to a rape survivor. A South African man was drugged and raped numerous times over three days by three female assailants. The man is 23-years-old. The man had hailed a communal taxi in eastern Pretoria on Friday which had three young women inside. The taxi ride proved detrimental to his health and well-being. The man was ordered to sit in front as the taxi began to change directions. Reportedly he was injected with an unknown substance and passed out.
Colette Weilbach, South African Police Service Captain said, “’He stated that he woke up in an unfamiliar room on a single bed. The female suspects then allegedly forced the man to drink an energy drink before taking turns raping him numerous times a day. The South African Police Service take all sexual offences seriously regardless of gender. We assure all victims of these types of crimes that we will carry out robust investigations to bring offenders to justice.” The victim was later dumped in a semi-naked state in a field. He managed to flag down a car and ask for assistance and help. South Africa has an epidemic of rape and sexual violence against both men and women and the crime rates are alarmingly high.
According to some estimates more than half-a-million rapes occur annually in the country of South Africa. Nearly 20% sexual violations reported in South Africa are on men. However, often the cases go unreported because the victims feel that the police won’t take it seriously.
