An incident that tarnished the relationship between husband and wife has come to light from Erode district of Tamil Nadu. To get the sum insured of Rs 3 crore, the wife along with her cousin killed the husband and gave him the appearance of an accident.

In fact, 62-year-old Rangarajan, a resident of Perundurai in Erode district, was burnt to death by his wife in a car just to get insurance money. In this work, he was supported by his cousin. Actually Rangarajan used to do a power loom and real estate business. Recently, he was injured in an accident last month and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Coimbatore.

One day his 55-year-old wife Jyoti Mani (55) and his cousin Raja (age 41 years) got him discharged from the hospital and started taking him home by Omni van. Together they had already hatched a conspiracy to kill Rangarajan. Both of them told the people that they took the Omni van and when they reached near Perumanallur, it caught fire. After the fire, both of them got out of the car and saved their lives but they could not get Rangarajan out.

When the police investigated the incident, they found the statements of Rangarajan's wife and her cousin Raja contradicting each other. This increased their suspicion on both of them and when rigorously interrogated, they revealed shocking facts. The woman told that her husband Rangarajan had got accident insurance of Rs 3 crore and had a debt of Rs 1 crore. Lenders were continuously pressurizing them to give money. The woman told that her husband had made her a nominee in the insurance. Jyothi Mani and Raja confess that it was Rangarajan who told them to kill him and use the insurance money to pay off the debt. Jyothi Mani and Raja then planned and set the vehicle on fire by pouring petrol on Rangarajan so that it would appear as an accident and get the sum insured of Rs 3 crore. The police have arrested both of them on the charge of murder. Jyothi Mani and her cousin Raja have been sent to Coimbatore Central Jail.
